M&A Market Update<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

May saw a quieter period for M&A activity in the investment sector, with only three transactions above \u00a35m announced \u2013 making it the lowest monthly deal volume of 2026 to date and bringing the year\u2011to\u2011date (YTD) total to 28. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The May deal count included two transactions in the independent financial adviser market, with Advies Private Clients acquiring St Andrews Financial and AAB Wealth acquiring BpH Wealth Management. Elsewhere, Isio announced the acquisition of Collidr, an artificial intelligence and investment management consultancy.<\/p>\n\n\n

Deal values in May were concentrated at the lower end of the market, with all transactions falling within the \u00a35\u201325m range. It also marked the first month in 2026 without a deal exceeding \u00a3100m in value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, while smaller deals continue to dominate overall activity (accounting for 57% of transactions YTD), 2026 has seen the highest proportion\u00a0of \u00a3100m+ transactions on record (32%), highlighting a growing concentration of activity at the top end of the market. In contrast, the mid-market (\u00a325\u2013100m) has declined notably\u00a0relative\u00a0to prior years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As demonstrated by May\u2019s activity, smaller bolt-on acquisitions remain a key strategic focus for acquirers.<\/p>\n\n\n

Two of the three\u00a0acquisitions in May were completed by\u00a0private equity-backed\u00a0(PE)\u00a0acquirers, with the third completed by a privately-owned acquirer\u00a0(albeit with funding also from PE). The share of deals involving PE has increased significantly, rising from c.31% in 2020 to c.64% in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This shift reflects sustained financial sponsor interest in the investment sector\u2019s attractive characteristics, with demand particularly focused on wealth management businesses. The continued rise in PE\u2011backed activity highlights the growing institutionalisation of the sector, with sponsor\u2011backed consolidators playing an increasingly dominant role in driving transaction activity.<\/p>\n\n\n

  • Isio<\/strong> announced the acquisition of Collidr<\/strong>. Collidr provides artificial intelligence solutions and investment management consultancy, managing over \u00a33.8bn in assets and operating through two entities \u2013 Collidr Technologies and Collidr Asset Management. The acquisition will increase Isio\u2019s investment management capabilities in the wealth market, integrating technology, adviser tools, and expertise into its offering for financial advisers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • Advies\u00a0Private Clients\u00a0<\/strong>announced the acquisition of\u00a0London-based advice firm\u00a0St Andrews Financial<\/strong>.\u00a0St Andrews has \u00a3200m\u00a0of assets under management and c300 clients with a focus on professionals based in London and the\u00a0South East.\u00a0Advies\u00a0was supported by the Saltus Partnership\u00a0programme\u00a0in funding the transaction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
