As in previous quarters, acquisitions in the Italian insurance distribution mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market were predominantly bolt-on transactions aimed at expanding regional presence, strengthening specialist capabilities and deepening relationships with attractive client segments. Rather than signalling the emergence of new buyers, Q2 demonstrated that consolidation continues to be driven by a limited number of well-capitalised platforms executing disciplined buy-and-build strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the defining characteristics of the Italian market continues to be the concentration of acquisition activity among a limited number of repeat acquirers. During the second quarter, Wide Group, EDGE and OneItalia accounted for the majority of announced transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wide Group was the most active buyer, completing three acquisitions, while EDGE and OneItalia also continued to pursue targeted bolt-on opportunities. Together, these established consolidators continue to shape the competitive landscape for insurance broking consolidation in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The buyer universe therefore remains highly concentrated. Rather than new entrants driving activity, experienced consolidators continue to deploy capital, integrate previous acquisitions and selectively strengthen their market positions through targeted acquisitions<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While increasing scale remained an important objective, many acquisitions announced during Q2 were also driven by specialist expertise. Wide\u2019s three acquisitions illustrate this trend. Sogea Broker, based in the Milan area, specialises in transport, logistics and motor risks. Naples-based FINGEA focuses on financial lines, including professional indemnity, D&O, cyber and marine insurance, while Rome-based Assimood specialises in professional liability insurance for healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EDGE was also active, completing two acquisitions during the quarter. Bari-based De Filippis Broker specialises in technological risks, surety and bonds, while La Spezia-based DS Insurance Broker advises corporate and middle-market clients on complex industrial risks, including defence, shipbuilding, manufacturing and energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
OneItalia Alliance acquired Milan-based Strategica Group, a risk management consultancy and insurance broker serving large corporate and SME clients. The transaction was OneItalia\u2019s tenth acquisition in just over a year, including deals completed directly and through Consulbrokers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second quarter of 2026 confirmed the continued execution of long-term buy-and-build strategies by Italy\u2019s leading consolidation platforms. Wide has now completed 23 acquisitions since Pollen Street\u2019s investment in August 2023, while OneItalia\u2019s rapid expansion and EDGE\u2019s continued activity demonstrate the pace at which established platforms are building scale and specialist capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Across the wider market, transactions remained almost exclusively bolt-on acquisitions. No transformational mergers or new platform investments were announced during the quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Italy remains one of Europe’s most attractive markets for insurance distribution consolidation. The market is still highly fragmented, established sponsor-backed platforms retain significant acquisition capacity and international strategic buyers continue to view Italy as an attractive long-term growth market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the market is gradually entering a new phase. As the leading consolidation platforms mature, the strategic focus is shifting beyond acquisition activity towards capital allocation, platform quality and long-term value creation. The emphasis is increasingly moving from building scale to demonstrating that scale can be translated into sustainable growth, operational integration and attractive investor returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The process attracting the greatest market attention is Pollen Street Capital’s reported sale process for Wide Group. If completed, the transaction is expected to establish an important valuation benchmark for Italy’s insurance broking sector and provide insight into investor appetite for scaled, private equity-backed distribution platforms. The outcome is likely to influence future refinancing activity, secondary buyouts and sponsor exit strategies across the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other leading platforms are approaching similar stages in their development. AnaCap Financial Partners continues to build EDGE Group, J.C. Flowers & Co. is expanding OneItalia Alliance, while Presidio Investors continues to support GBSAPRI. As these platforms mature, capital structure optimisation, operational integration and eventual ownership transitions are likely to become increasingly important strategic themes alongside continued bolt-on acquisitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bolt-on acquisitions are therefore expected to remain the dominant feature of the Italian market. Increasingly, however, competitive advantage will be determined not simply by the number of acquisitions completed, but by the quality, integration and scalability of the platforms being built and the valuations they are ultimately able to achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
