In Q1 2026, French insurance distribution buyers were increasingly prioritising specialist capabilities and access to attractive client segments over scale alone. In Q2 that trend has been reinforced, while also pointing towards another development in the market: the combination of those capabilities into broader and more diversified distribution platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kereis was the most active buyer identified during Q2, completing the acquisitions of Granier Assurances and Jadis Assurances, while also announcing its proposed combination with Santiane. Granier Assurances strengthens Kereis\u2019 commercial insurance activities in south-eastern France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Founded in 1970, the family-owned broker has an established position among SMEs and mid-sized companies in the Provence-Alpes-C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur region, with a strong focus on corporate property and casualty (P&C) and personal insurance. The acquisition of Jadis Assurances further expands Kereis\u2019 direct brokerage activities. Based in the Paris region, Jadis has operated since 1968 and serves approximately 4,000 corporate clients across France through a team of around 25 employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposed acquisition of Santiane takes Kereis\u2019 strategy considerably further. Santiane is a leading French personal insurance distributor combining wholesale brokerage, direct digital distribution and technology capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposed combination would create a group serving nearly 20 million clients, employing more than 2,000 people across seven European countries and spanning major banking and insurance partnerships, wholesale brokerage, digital distribution and direct brokerage. The transaction has also progressed since the end of Q2. On 17 July, the French Competition Authority approved Kereis\u2019 acquisition of sole control of Santiane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Kereis-Santiane captured much of the attention, Q2 provided further evidence that specialist expertise remains an important acquisition driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finaxy Group acquired Atekka, a technology-enabled agricultural insurance platform founded in 2016. In 2025, Atekka protected more than 2,000 agricultural businesses, insured approximately 340,000 hectares and collected \u20ac21 million of premiums. The business achieved average annual growth of 48%. For Finaxy, the acquisition strengthens its multi-specialist positioning and adds further expertise in agricultural insurance, a segment where risk requirements are becoming increasingly specialised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Diot-Siaci also completed an acquisition with R\u00e9union A\u00e9rienne & Spatiale (RA&S), a specialist aviation and space insurance broker with close to 100 professionals. The strategic rationale extends beyond adding specialist broking expertise. Diot-Siaci intends to use the combination to develop a managing general agent (MGA) distribution model focused particularly on large risks, adding another capability alongside its existing insurance broking activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another notable development was Suire-Sogeas\u2019 acquisition of EMG Courtage, the first bolt-on since Meanings Capital Partners invested in the group in late 2025. The transaction marks the launch of Suire-Sogeas\u2019 buy-and-build strategy. EMG Courtage is active in collective health and protection insurance, with particular expertise serving associations and organizations in the medico-social sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suire-Sogeas itself was formed through the combination of Suire Vie & Patrimoine and Sogeas and manages more than \u20ac100 million of premiums. The group intends to use M&A to expand its national footprint, strengthen its teams and broaden its product offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The significance of the EMG transaction therefore lies less in its individual size than in the addition of another sponsor-backed platform actively pursuing acquisitions in the French market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taken together, the first half of 2026 suggests that French insurance distribution M&A is increasingly developing along two parallel tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first remains targeted capability building. Atekka adds agricultural expertise to Finaxy, RA&S strengthens Diot-Siaci in aviation and space, EMG expands Suire-Sogeas in collective health and protection, while Granier and Jadis broaden Kereis\u2019 direct broking activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second is consolidation at the platform level. Kereis-Santiane is the clearest example. Rather than adding another individual specialty, the transaction brings together substantial existing capabilities across wholesale brokerage, direct distribution, personal insurance, and technology within a significantly larger platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also illustrates the continuing role of private capital in French insurance distribution. Following Advent International\u2019s acquisition of Kereis from Bridgepoint in 2025, the Santiane transaction demonstrates the continued use of M&A to accelerate platform development under new ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MarshBerry identified five completed French insurance distribution transactions during Q2, compared with 12 in Q1, bringing the currently identified first-half total to 17. While activity moderated in terms of transaction volume, the underlying conditions for continued consolidation remain firmly in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looking ahead, competition for attractive assets is likely to remain strong, supported by well-capitalised strategic and private equity-backed buyers. As consolidation progresses, the market could gradually shift towards fewer but potentially larger transactions, alongside continued selective bolt-on activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For buyers, greater emphasis will be placed on disciplined capital deployment, successful integration and demonstrating that acquired scale can translate into sustainable growth and stronger margins. For shareholders, businesses with differentiated capabilities, attractive growth profiles, and a clear strategic fit should remain well positioned to attract buyer interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The French market therefore enters the second half of 2026 with a broader range of potential transaction types, from targeted specialist acquisitions to larger strategic combinations and ownership transitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
