Seven deals were announced in December, bringing the average to six transactions per month over the year. December\u2019s M&amp;A activity was lower than the other two months in the quarter, especially October which saw surging activity in the run-up to the Autumn Budget announcement. All of the transactions announced during the month involved wealth managers and financial planners bar one, which involved an advice tech firm.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"808\" height=\"472\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TotalAnnouncedInvestment.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TotalAnnouncedInvestment.png 808w, https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TotalAnnouncedInvestment-300x175.png 300w, https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TotalAnnouncedInvestment-768x449.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 808px) 100vw, 808px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>While most of the transactions this month were below an estimated value of \u00a325m, Titan Wealth\u2019s acquisition of Independent Wealth Planners (IWP) exceeded that and represents an example of a consolidation of another consolidator, something we may witness more in the future.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>December also saw the private equity-backed groups S\u00f6derberg &amp; Partners and Shackleton (formerly Skerritts) announcing multiple deals during the month, adding to the long list of acquisitions this year by private equity-backed wealth managers.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"886\" height=\"515\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TransactionVolumeBySize.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5526\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TransactionVolumeBySize.png 886w, https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TransactionVolumeBySize-300x174.png 300w, https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TransactionVolumeBySize-768x446.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 886px) 100vw, 886px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>All but one of the deals announced during December involved a private equity-backed buyer. This did not negate the increased proportion of overseas buyers, who have nearly tripled their share of the total deal count compared to 2023 levels. It should be noted however that some of the overseas buyers are funded by international private equity firms.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"884\" height=\"515\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TypesofBuyers.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5522\" style=\"width:894px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TypesofBuyers.png 884w, https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TypesofBuyers-300x175.png 300w, https:\/\/www.marshberry.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/TypesofBuyers-768x447.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 884px) 100vw, 884px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Notable transactions (December 2024):<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Titan Wealth<\/strong> announced the acquisition of <strong>Independent Wealth Planners (IWP)<\/strong>. The transaction includes IWP\u2019s two trading entities (IWP Financial Planning Limited and IWP Investment Management Limited) and brings \u00a36.6bn in client assets to Titan, raising Titan\u2019s total assets under management and advice to \u00a335bn. The acquisition also propels private equity-backed Titan to become one of the largest financial planning businesses in the UK.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>S\u00f6derberg &amp; Partners <\/strong>announced it had acquired minority stakes in three advice businesses: Norfolk-based <strong>Hoyl Independent Advisers<\/strong> (\u00a33bn of client assets), Midlands-based <strong>Intelligent I-FA<\/strong> (over \u00a3300m of client assets) and Yorkshire-based <strong>Mosaac<\/strong> (\u00a3230m of client assets). The Nordic wealth manager, backed by private equity firms KKR and TA Associates, has invested in over 20 UK firms this year as part of its strategy to grow advice firms and integrate its technology and investment solutions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other UK transactions (December 2024):<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Skerritts<\/strong> announced it had rebranded to <strong>Shackleton<\/strong> and acquired four advice firms: <strong>Save &amp; Invest Group<\/strong>, <strong>Fleming Financial<\/strong>, <strong>Robson Lister <\/strong>and <strong>Shorts Financial Services<\/strong>, adding a combined total of \u00a31.5bn in client assets and offices in Scotland, Bristol, Plymouth, Sutton Coldfield and Chesterfield.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Foster Denovo<\/strong> announced the acquisition of Staffordshire-based advice firm <strong>Brian Mole Independent Financial Advisers,<\/strong> adding \u00a3300m of assets under advice. The deal brings seven advisers, nine support staff and 1,300 clients to the group.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Moneyfarm<\/strong> announced it had agreed to acquire Borehamwood-based direct-to-consumer investment and cash solution services provider <strong>Willis Owen<\/strong>. The transaction expands Moneyfarm\u2019s UK footprint and adds \u00a3680m in client assets, taking Moneyfarm\u2019s total assets under management to over \u00a35bn.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Milecross Financial<\/strong> announced the acquisition of Buckinghamshire-based <strong>The Martin Cliffe Practice<\/strong>. The deal brings four advisers, three administrators, 650 clients and \u00a380m of client assets to Milecross.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus Business Solutions<\/strong> announced it had completed its management buyout from <strong>Abrdn <\/strong>marking a return to independence after nearly 14 years.
